User Permissions after gnome install

I recently installed gnome 2.10 onto my mandriva 2006 install (Mandriva one) , however since the install my user permisiions are premissionless. I first noticed in gnome that nautilus showed padlock symbols over my user files and wouldn't allow me access. I went back to kde to see and konqueror and krusader allow me access and I can use the files but I cannot save files now to my user directory.

I went into mcc and gave the user account permission to everything, but still this has no effect. what can I do to restore normal user permissions.

you could post the long listing of the directory and give us a chance to see whats going on. basically the following should solve it.

chown -R username: directory
this will make you owner of the directory. next check for permissions. give the user (you) the 7 permission, group and others as you like.
