USB mouse freezing in Mandrake Control Panel

I installed mandrake 9.1 on my laptop and so far have almost everything running (i'm pretty new at this)! One problem that i continually have is the usb mouse will freeze up occasionaly when i open Mandrake Control Center or if i open some of the "system information" programs. If i unplug the mouse and plug it into hte other port it will work again. The touchpad never freezes. Also if i freeze the mouse up in the second port i can't go back to the first usb port because it remains frozen untill i restart. Any ideas on what i can do?

did harddrake properly configure your mouse (ie: when you open up harddrake does it have the right name?)

Also, can you re-create the problem every time? I know you say "always have" but I'm wondering if that is a figure of speech or not.

I've used 2 USB mice no problem on my laptop (a logitec and a microsoft).

Good luck.

Funny thing is that harddrake is one of the programs that will freeze it up! No I can not recreate it everytime. I would say half the time opening one of these "hardware" or "system" type programs will freeze the USB mouse. I'm thinking it is configured wrong. I will check and see what harddrake says next time that i don't freeze it up when i open it and post it here. Thanks.

Crashes every time

The mouse freezes up everytime I run harddrake. A few more coments on the problem. 1) I have to completely restart to get the mouse working again (just the usb one the touchpad never freezes) I can't just logout and back in. 2) Here is the relevent data from my XF86CONFIG-4 file:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/usbmouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse2"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Emulate3Buttons"
Option "Emulate3Timeout" "50"
EndSection

I have no idea why it is "IMPS/2" I am really new at this bat that seemed a little weird to me. Could that be my problem?

Still no luck. I tried editing my XF86CONFIG-4 file to match some other ones i have seen but no luck. Here is what harddrake says about the mouse:

Old device file: ‎/dev/usbmouse
Name: ‎Wheel
Number of buttons: ‎5
Type: ‎USB

It only displays one though. SHould it have two? Also i noticed on harddrake for usb i have the following:

VT82C586B USB (twice) when i look at the info it's :

Vendor: ‎VIA Technologies
Bus: ‎PCI
Bus identification: ‎1106:3038:152d:2201
Location on the bus: ‎0:b:0
Description: ‎VT82C586B USB
Module: ‎usb-uhci
Media class: ‎SERIAL_USB

Vendor: ‎VIA Technologies Inc
Bus: ‎PCI
Bus identification: ‎1106:3104:152d:2201
Location on the bus: ‎0:b:2
Description: ‎VT8235 USB Enhanced Controller
Module: ‎ehci-hcd
Media class: ‎SERIAL_USB

then later on in the same section i have some unknowns:

Vendor: ‎Linux 2.4.21-0.13mdk ehci-hcd
Bus: ‎USB
Description: ‎VIA Technologies, Inc. USB 2.0
Module: ‎unknown
Media class: ‎Hub|Root Hub

Vendor: ‎Unknown
Bus: ‎USB
Description: ‎USB UHCI Root Hub
Module: ‎unknown
Media class: ‎Hub|Root Hub

both of these have module unknown for them. So could this be that my USB hub's aren't working right?
