urpmi issues - not updating
hello again...
Im running mandriva 2007 and have recently had some seriously irritating issues with the urpmi.... several sources, usually "contrib" and "PLF-nonfree" are perpetually shown to need updating in the mcc media manager... yet they never will, I have tried to find errors in the console messages without luck, and I have no idea where to go from here... also, SOME of what is commonly available at these sources shows up in the installable software list, but hardly any is actually installable because of dependencies from these sources NOT being available. I am left with very diminished functionality without these sources, ESPECIALLY the PLF-nonfree! any advice would be much appreciated!!! thanks again! C.Poff |

I have tried using numerous mirrors for the plf-nonfree.
I WAS getting rsync error messages, so I started picking from ftp and http mirrors, same end result but without error messages. I do not remember specifically all that I've tried, but it's got to be nearly all of them at this point. I do remember having tried France and the Czech republic recently. I've done this a hundred times in the past without any problems ever, so it has become especially frustrating this-go-round! thanks! CP |
Sometimes the mirrors have troubles...
In the worse case I do this: # I get rpm database errors - you probably won't want to do the next line rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db.00?;rpm --rebuilddb urpmi.removemedia main urpmi.removemedia contrib ...etc. or all media with urpmi.removemedia -a Then I use http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ to find different mirrors and recreate the media urls. I'd recommend going to the site and checking to see that it is alive and well before configuring urpmi to use it. I hope this helps. |
I have used the easy urpmi site since I fist heard about it,
and like I said, I have never had a problem in the past. previously I had removed all the media sourced except the installation dvd and had the same unfortunate results. tonight I removed EVERYTHING and started over. I first used the browser to actually go to one of the plf mirrors just to see that it was indeed being served... and it was. I gave the root console all the new urpmi lines and watched as it seemed to do it's thing quite nicely all the way through... but when I went back to the media manager it showed that... main_updates contrib_updates plf-free and plf-nonfree all still needed to be updated... so I clicked "update" in the media manager and watched the console as it, again, did its thing up untill it got to plf-nonfree... and there is sat, without any activity. the progress window that appeared then disappeared, but the console still showed it stuck on plf-nonfree. I used wavemon to watch for activity, and there was none. I let it sit like that for nearly an hour without any result at all, and the media manager still shows that all previously mentioned sources need still updating. I went to install available software list in mcc and got the same results as before. I have been trying this for months thinking that it might be a mirror issue, but it was not that long ago that I did this for a friend on his machine just as successfully as I always had (previously). I've even done this before with success on this machine before I upgraded the hard drive, and gave it a new installation. is there any way that this particular installation could be problematic? that seems a little far fetched, but geezus! I am completely at a loss. thanks again for your advice and suggestions! cp |
just tried this again, exactly the same way, but using a different
mirror for plf-nonfree. exact same result (or lack thereof) !?!?!?! cp |
having realized that all previous successfull attempts
were made while running an earlier release of mandriva, and having since gotten the same non-results on now 3 different machines using nearly all possible mirrors, I've come to the conclusion that my problem must be somehow related to this release itself.... yet apparently no one else is having this problem??? |
