URPMI Database Locked

Hello everyone,
Seems as though I am stuck again.
I have tried for a couple of days now to get easy urpmi to work with no avail.
I thought I might have done something wrong the first time I tried to use easy
urpmi so I go back to the easy urpmi site and go thru the process again, everything
seemed to go fine with that part but when I try to get any rpm files I get a error which
says" urpmi database locked".

Help! what did I do wrong.

I know it has got to be something I did wrong as no one else seems to have
any problems with easy urpmi.

Thanks in advance.
Dooley

Two lock files are created in '/var/lib/urpmi' - .LOCK and .RPMLOCK. If either of these exist, delete them. Then rerun rpm or urpmi.

2 methods to overcome the dreaded "locked" urpmi database...........

easiest, no fail method.............. reboot!:D

or...........

open a terminal, su to root, type............ ps -aux (hit enter)

look for any processes called urpmi &/or curl, not the PID number associated with them in the second from left column, then type............. kill (PID number goes here) (hit enter)

example: kill 8949

Thank you very much courtrrb. I found the two files you mentioned and deleted them.

You say to rerun uprmi, do I need to go back to the easy urpmi site and start over, or do I just continue with urpmi as is.

Thanks again.

Ive noticed that a lot of people are having this problem. I was too when i was trying to update my Urpmi FTP Source from their website (http://easyurpmi.zarb.org). I tried deleting the .LOCK & .RPMLOCK files but it wouldnt allow me to. this is what i did to get past it and update my FTP sources. (BTW- Im on Mandrake 10.0)

I created a new user just called "rootuser" and gave it access to the root group. logged in with that user and ran the FTP addy updates in console using Super User as my rootuser and it worked fine without having to delete those .lock / .rpmlock files. now the new sources are listed in my RPMDrake list so i can use the GUI update program to get all the new files rather than having to use urpmi from console. I imagine the update will still work from another distro.

-------------edit-------------

after trying again to do this from my regular user account i realized this. it didnt matter that i made a root account. its just that i restarted my computer. so thats all i had to do. if your urpmi is locked, just try restarting your computer.

If a particular instance of uprmi.addmedia is running, does a query uprmq .... throw the message of "uprmi database locked" ???
