Upgrading to Mandrake 10.1 (Need serious Assistance please)
Ok, I am currently running Mandrake 9.1 dual booting with Windows 2000 using Grub..
I want to upgrade to Mandrake 10.1 (CDs on the way) by doing a fresh clean install. Should I do the following: PLEASE NOTE: Thats this option would be the best since it would be easy. Just, I cant find the DELETE button in the Diskdrake Partitioner DURING the install of Linux to delete partitions one-by-one. ALso, I would like to create the following Linux partitions which would be as follows: "/" (root), SWAP, and /home
Now, heres the Partitioning Plan:
When the partitioner comes up during install, should I just delete the current Linux partitions that was created during the 9.1 install and create new Linux partitions from scratch? (This option would be VERY EASY for me by the way).
Heres how I would do it. Delete the current 9.1 Linux partitions and just re-create new Linux partitions for the 10.1 druing the install. That would be fairly simple to this that way.
But, in DiskDrake, I dont know how to delete them because the only buttons I could locate is the Undo, Clear All, More, and Undo. So I how could I delete partitions one-by-one?
I really need to upgrade...So, I would appreciate some assistance here please.
When you start the upgrade you will get the option to use or delete existing partitions, if you want to select partitions to delete and re-create your own then choose the expert option at the partitioning stage.

If you want to do a FRESH CLEAN install of Mandrake 10.1, just wipe out your whole Linux partition. This includes "/", "swap", and "/home". You don't need to do this in Diskdrake. Just pop in the Mandrake 10.1 installation CD during boot up, let it take you to the graphical wizard, and do it from there. Select CUSTOM PARTITIONING and just wipe it all out. Then create a "/" partition, "swap" partion, and a "/home" partition. Those are the three you only need. If you don't know what is the best, select "AUTO PARTITION" and it will partition those 3 automatically for you. You can then play around with the size of each partition.
When you boot off the cd <you need to choose the 'install' option> and get to the partitioning stage, you choose <custom disk partitioning> you are then shown the drives/partitions detected, select the tab that represents your current Linux install<hdx>, click the <clear all> button to clear the partition, now click <auto allocate> then click <done> you will get a warning that the partition is about to be written to disk, click <ok> to continue.
Ah well Micro420 beat me to it :-)

All good. the more detailed information the better for him, which you have provided. good job
How do I delete a partition one-by-one in the partitioner? Because all I can see are the UNDO and the UNMOUNT button. So which one do I have to click to remove only the Linux Partitions?
Well....either way, I just want to know how to delete my current Linux partitions to be able to set new ones or re-create them when I install Mandrake 10.1...
