Upgrading PHP..and maybe MySQL too?

Hello,
I am on a Mandrake 9.1 server. Right now I am using a graphical interface(KDE) to upgrade these two programs because I thought it would be easier, if not I can use SSH. Anyways, Can I just use the rpm helper installer to install php? Do I have to uninstall it first? How do I do that? I just need some detailed instructions to upgrade/install PHP to 4.3.9. I read the documentation but I just cannot get it.

Aside from that I am using MySQL 4.0.11 and want to upgrade to 4.0.23. Do I need to uninstall that first as well? Is it easy to upgrade these two programs? Can someone show me a better guide or just get me started? Thanks.

Hi!

First look what RPM's you have installed for your PHP and MySQL. Then download the newer packages from the internet and upgrade. You don't have to uninstall the old ones.
Code:
rpm -U new_package.rpm
This upgrades the package.

Wow, thats really easy then, I thought it would be a lot more complicated. But wait, I can't find .rpms for 4.3.9 of php just tar.gz I unzipped them but how do I compile it into an rpm, or get a pre-compiled version? Also here is what I have for .rpms of php.
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 34554 Feb 14 2003 php-domxml-4.3.0-2mdk.i586.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15446 Feb 14 2003 php-xml-4.3.0-2mdk.i586.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 13775 Feb 14 2003 php-xmlrpc-4.3.0-2mdk.i586.rpm

Do I have to download individual updates for those too? Or do I just install the core php.. this is complicated..
