Upgrading from 9.2 to 10

Anyone got any advice on how to upgrade 9.2 to v10 ?

I am a bit of a noob, and spent all last week getting this mandrake 9.2 install just how i want it, with gnome 2.4 etc.

I would love to see what v10 has in it, but not if it means returning to a vanilla install.

Any ideas ?

I have read some accounts of successfull upgrades. I'll try it myself. I'll let you know if my box is still alive after that.

My personal recommendation is to stay away from the "upgrade" feature. I have a basic partition setup -- just swap, /, and /home -- and I usually get the MDK updater to format the / partition, so I get a "clean" install whilst retaining all my /home data. It does mean having to reinstal/recompile a lot of apps and RPMs you might have installed to/in root, but I each new release of Mandrake is a good opportunity for me to "clean house" anyhow :D

In fact, due to the switch from KDE 3.1.3 to KDE 3.2, I created a new user account as well, and copied all my old data over (sparingly). The old user account was very cluttered due to much fiddling with 9.2, and I found that a new account really shows off Mandrake 10.0's straighforward, crisp, clean feel.

I did an "upgrade" from Mandrake 9.0 to 9.1 once, just out of curiosity. It installed and booted okay, but starting x was very wobbly, and neither GNOME nor KDE would startup. Never really tried an upgrade again after that.

Cheers,
Tim
