Upgrading from 9.2 to 10.0 (What stays what goes what comes again)

I have a machine with Mandrake 9.2 and also MySQL 4.1 and Oracle Linux 8.1.7
Thinking about upgrading to Mandrake 10.0, but will my DB's survive?.
I will backup each DB ..but will i need to reinstall the binaries of the DB´s?
Will they work after upgrade?
Anybody done this before?

Do the installed software "survive" the upgrade process?
What about the boot configuration?

I know that the safest way to do this is with another machine.

Well, you can try upgrading and your databases should survive. I have never tried an upgrade, always done a clean install. I've read quite a few places where people have had problems with doing an upgrade though.

What are the theoretical reasons for not having to reinstall the BD Binaries?
Why should they survive the process?

Anybody done this before?

I have recently just done an new install from 9.2 to 10. Before hand I dome a full mysqldump of all DBs. Once install was complete I just ran the dump file and all databases were restored with the correct User permissions since a full dump also extracts the mysql db with users and permissions.
