upgrade should be an option
some people have reported problems and other success
back up as much as you can in the way of addresses and bookmarks etc first
(just in case)

re upgrade

Hi

I mean that I have 9.1 running and I have just bought the box version of 9.2 and I wanted to know if there was an upgrade option for me with out reeinstaling
and how to do it. with out reformating tha partitions..

I have backed up evrything but I got so many thing running that i dont feel like reeinstalling the whole thing .

I noticed that some people seem to have problems with 9.2
I have set it up on an other computer and it is looking great so far !!

maybe it depends on tha hardware that is on the pc!!

thatnks
phil

Dunno. For the upgrade: I did one once and rpm failed to resolve dependencies (I think it's because I installed so much stuff by myself with checkinstall - so I blame me for it), so I had few programs updated and had to make a complete reinstall with formating...

Anyway, updating should work and it should appear in a choice if you simply boot up with the installation disk of 9.2. It should come right after selecting the language and before any heavier stuff.

I had it as a choice when I tried the beta of 10.0.

Cheers,
matze

er yeah
9.1 is ultra stable by comparison

though, most of the problems i encounter with 9.2 are log out problems
x tends to hang or have trouble restarting. It needs to be pointed out that by the time logging out occurs there is no work to be lost as all is saved and closed.
The problems 9.2 has are NOT in any way comparable to the ol blue screen of death and other such mid session crashes.

i have had to reload Mandrake 9.1 several times for various reasons and have learned that you can choose which partitions to overwrite when you are interacting with the install GUI. It asks you whether you want to update or new install. By the second time I had a separate /boot partition and only overwrite that one when I reload. It seems to save stuff (including an "old linux" selection on Lilo) but I have nothing yet on Linux that I care about whether it is saved or not and have not had that sinking feeling when something is missing. I don't think this is too helpful, but might inspire somebody more accomplished to weigh in.

Also you can abort an install up to rewriting the partition table, I think.
