Upgrade MDV RC2

I just tried doing a normal upgrade of 2009 RC2 to current release and it was a disaster. Once I rebooted, all I see is a checkerboard type screen. The KDM screen looks normal but when I sign in, I get the checkerboard screen. I can't do anything else to fix it.

Any suggestions/ideas?

Thnx.
