I'm running 10.0 and I'm thinking on upgrading it to 10.1 official, through urpmi. Can this be done ? what precautions should be taken ? thanks for your tips
Thanks for your answer, I just wanted to upgrade without breaking/reinstalling all the stuff I have now. Well, I guess I'll wait for 10.2, or try another distro, given that it's probably going to be as painful upgrading or changing.
when you remove all the entries using urpmi.removemedia -a that removes all 10.0 entries then addd the 10.1 enteries and type urpmi --auto-select and this will start the upgrading.
it will be along while to update and do this in console without the guui running.
after its done type urpmi --updates --auto-select to get any updates
you will also have to manually install the newer kernel and source
urpmi -y kernel
Originally posted by reddazz I have upgraded, using urpmi, but there is always a risk of potential problems and stuff breaking, so most people don't recommend upgrading this way.
My box has always made it through the upgrade process via urpmi, but I have heard other people tell of "horror stories" when they try it. So I always recommend having a complete backup, just in case.
(I know of one user who has upgraded over the years from Mdk 9.1 to 10.2(beta), step-by-step, without ever a problem. )
