unRAR for Mandrake

Anybody knows how to get the data out of RAR files made with WINRAR in windows?

Any software for LINUX for doing this thing?

reddazz 06-02-2005 03:42 AM

there is an unrar package avaiable in the PLF mandrake repositories. You can set it up using the guide at easyurpmi.

duffmckagan 06-02-2005 04:07 AM

I tried that out.
But, still I can't open My RAR files.
There was some stuff added in the compression section (GZOZIP), but couldn't unRAR My files.
I thought that ARK would UnRAR my files, But it did not.

Is there any other software as such for UNRARING files in LINUX.?

how do you unrar the rar files...

code :
unrar e <unrar files>

working fine for me..

duffmckagan 06-02-2005 04:37 AM

gives me this error when I type your syntax.

bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'

I changed the directory to the files I want to extract, and then issued your command.
But to no avail.

pls post your

code :

file <unrar_file>

duffmckagan 06-02-2005 05:32 AM

I did this..

cd /homeamit/

then it pointed to my home directory.
then..

unrar e <c.rar> (Here C is the name of the file that is to be unrared.)

do you have unrar binary installed? check using "which unrar"

reddazz 06-02-2005 07:05 AM

You could also try "unrar x filename.rar"

duffmckagan 06-02-2005 07:10 AM

which: no unrar in (/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin/:/usr/games:/home/amit/bin)

reddazz 06-02-2005 07:13 AM

That implies that unrar is not installed.

duffmckagan 06-02-2005 07:17 AM

Yeah, I understood that.

But now how do i get the unrar binaries?

I even tried to find a software that would help me UNRAR< UNACE< UNZIP etc...all the files.

Winace

Can you visit this site, and recommend a file to be downloaded specific to my distribution....

reddazz 06-02-2005 07:28 AM

If you have the PLF urpmi repositories configured, just do "urpmi unrar" as root. Did you say you tried the versions from PLF before?
