unattended dump problem

I am trying to automate my backup using dump. I am backing up to a hard drive so this problem seems odd to me. In any case one of my dumps exceeds 2GB. In spite of using the -M flag, the dump still tries to prompt for the next volume. Since the dump is being done in back ground, the process fails (I thought it was supposed to wait for an operator reply but that is another problem for another time). How do I set this up so it automatically starts the next volume? TIA.
