Unable to Access urpmi data base
Hey guys I was trying to do an update using my Mandrake Control Center and instead of going to my rpm media manager like I should have, I went and hit update manager and it a took a long time doing its thing. In the end it gave me a message that my packages were corrupted or data base was tied up.
I realized what I had done, so I went back and tried to do an update using my rpm media manager. I checked everything and hit update and it failed to update as well.
So I thought I would start over and I ran the command urpmi.removemedia -a and then tried to do a easy urpmi and it said it was unable to access urpmi data base.
To rexplain: When I tried to use the Media Manager to run an update it gave me this message.
"Error retrieving packages'
It is impossible to retieve the list of new packages from the from the media 'jpackage' Either this update media is misconfigured and in this case you should use the software media manager to remove it and re-add it in order to reconfigure it, or either it is currently unreachable and you should try later.[
My question is, is there anything I can do to get out of this to fix it?

Re: Unable to Access urpmi data base
No one has any tips as to what I need to do? Please let me know if you do. I really do not want to reload the operating system again.

Whizbit,
Here is what I did to resolve my problem. All I did was reinsert my Mandrake Installation DVD, in my DVD ROM drive (of course) and I went to my MCC and went to my RPM media manager and I hit update. I really don't know what I did, but it appears to have resolved my problem, because all I did was hit the update button and it updated.
I ran a urpmi and installed a program.
I am confused because maybe the mirrors were down when I tried to use or maybe they weren't, so perhaps what I have done is not even a fix.

if you have problems retrieving packages, its usually due to problems with mirrors. You have to try later or change your mirrors. I tend to configure several mirrors (name them differently of course), so if there is a problem with one mirror, urpmi tries others.
