UMAX scanner problem

I am unable to make my UMAX Astra Slim 600 (USB) work with MDK 10.0 though it does what it is meant to do under Win 98. Harddrake does not list it as supported. The UMAX site is not helpful at all. Help appreciated. Perhaps there is another scanner with whose settings mine will work.

It just might be that your hardware isn't supported in the Kernel. Did you check the hardware compatibility list on this website and on the Mandrake website?

No, Micro420, I have not checked the lists you name. My scanner (Astra Slim 600) is not among the UMAX models that are listed in MDK 10.0. When I try to install Astra Slim 1200, I get a message saying that it is not supported. Why list the thing then? When I install plain old Astra Slim, without a number in its name, I am told that the device has been installed. But it has not been installed - at any rate, the scanning program does not see it.

I was hoping that a compatible driver might exist. From over a decade ago, I recall that most Epson dot matrix printers worked, though often with limited functionality, with the drivers of other models. There are several laser printers today which work with the HP LJ4 driver. That's the sort of thing for which I'm searching.

I'll go and look at the compatibility lists now. Thanks.

[EDIT] Will do, Colnago. Sane didn't help, though, when I looked.
