Smile uber noob here please be patient

I've just built my first pc and installed mandrake 10.0 on it. i have, i expect what is likely to be the first of many questions about the os, but i feel this will be the dumbest, so please be gentle.

My question is this

How do i shutdown my computer?, i can't seem to find a shutdown "button" anywhere, all i get on the kicker is log off and lock computer. I've checked the system config and changed shutdown to all users, but still don't know what to do. i also tried opening a console and typing shutdown but to no avail

any help would be awesome

oh, one more question, what's the best cd burner for mandrake

cheers

i've tried the log off button, all it does is log me out, then load up a different looking gui that i can't do anything with, no buttons can be pressed, no menu's seem to work. the only thing moving seems to be the clock!!

i'll check that cd burner cheers

weird. there should be three options in the "logout box". They are: End Session, Shut Down, Reboot. click on shut down (or power down)

am I correct here?

ok, you should always be on as a regular user. being on root can be dangerous to your computer's health. I don't know if you can create a regular user in root, but probably under the system's settings (configure) you should be able to create a regular user.

just type in the terminal or your RUN bar (if you have one):

Code:
poweroff
and your computer will shut itself down. Create a shortcut with that command, poweroff, and when you double click on it, BAM! your computer will shutdown. Mandrake 10.1 has a built in "shut down" selection whereas 10.0 does not, I believe. If you don't know how to create this shortcut, let us know and we can help.
