turn gui on and off

how does one turn the gui off once the box is set up and how do i turn it bac on if needed thanks

To turn it off:
ctrl+alt+f1, login as root run the command

Code:

telinit 3

To turn it on:
login as root, run the command

Code:

telinit 5

, alt+f7

To enable/disable gui at startup:
Either use the option in the Mandrake Control Centre: http://doc.mandrivalinux.com/Mandrak...autologin.html
OR edit the file /etc/inittab and change the line to

Code:

id:5:initdefault:

to enable GUI or

Code:

id:3:initdefault:

to disable GUI

hi...

i'm still new in this but u can use this:

once u logon using gui (administrator user), go to command line...type init3 (or init 3) to turn off the gui...

to turn on it back type startx....by this u have an option without disabling averytime u want to use one of them....

try it...
