Troubles with rpmdrake
Hi all.
I've got a problem with rpmdrake. I have Mandrake 10.0 installed and using rpmdrake (installed package rpmdrake-2.1.3-3mdk) for updating regularly.
Today I tried to check for updates and.. the update source did not answer. Ok, no panic, it did happen already. I did remove it and try to add a new one. And here comes the surprise: he does not allow me to re-add it. Rpmdrake first offer me to choose between 18 different sites, then... I tried all of them ... always the same answer: It is difficult to believe that all the 18 sites are currently unreachable. Then I thought: let me try to follow that paths with my mozilla! For example:
jungle.metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/distributions/mandrake/Mandrakelinux/devel/community/i586/media/main
In fact... it does not exist.
jungle.metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/distributions/mandrake/Mandrakelinux/
do not contain any directory "devel". Similar problem happens to any other site I tried.
Two question:
What happened? Three weeks ago I did update everything fine!
How do I update my Mandrake?
Thanks all

Try this URL.
Don't know why all 18 sources would be unaccessible, but I have found some devel sources aren't accessible anymore without a valid login/password. But, ftp.proxad.net is the one I use, and they seem to always have their database updated as soon as packages are released.

Well, strangely enough that URL... was one of the 18 not working. But in fact this one exists (can find it with mozilla), so I tried to understand in this case what can be wrong.
My rpmdrake sets automatically the path of a synthesis/hdlist. What ever it is, a kind of list of avalaible updates, I guess. This is setted by default as ../base/synthesis.hdlist.cz
Of course no directory "base" was around. So I substitute it with ./synthesis.hdlist.cz, that exists (at least, I can see it with mozilla, seems a directory. Nothing. Always the same message
It is impossible to retrieve the list...
Since your update is apparently working, can I ask you which path do you have for this list?

Well, I don't use rpmdrake (gui) so, what it's doing for you, I'm not fully understanding why you can't manually enter the specific path.
Here's what you can do:
1) Open up konsole
2) # su -
3) Give root's password
4) # urpmi.addmedia main_community ftp: //ftp.proxad.net/pub/Distributions_Linux/Mandrakelinux/devel/community/i586/media/main with ../media_info/hdlist_main.cz
(I've purposely added a space between ftp: and //ftp... so it won't show up as a link)
5) For contrib sources:
# urpmi.addmedia main_community ftp: //ftp.proxad.net/pub/Distributions_Linux/Mandrakelinux/devel/community/i586/media/contrib with ../media_info/hdlist_main.cz
OR
If you prefer to use gui, then go to MCC -> Software Management -> Media Manager -> Add.
Select FTP server for type of medium and enter for:
Name: Whatever you want to call it, i.e., main_community
URL: ftp: //ftp.proxad.net/pub/Distributions_Linux/Mandrakelinux/devel/community/i586/media/main
Check Relative path to synthesis/hdlist and enter: ../media_info/hdlist_main.cz
Do the same for contrib but change the path to "contrib"
I believe that 10.1's directory tree no longer uses "base" to store the hdlist.cz.

Well, it worked... maybe.
I did not have time today to work on it. Before going home after work I' did just one try. Still using rpmdrake, I gave him manually the path of the synthesis (looking at your instruction I could realize I gave him yesterday the wrong one). Well, it did not give me any error message. Apparently, it worked fine.
Apparently rpmdrake downloads the paths from some site of mandrake and... get them wrong.
Btw I'm still not sure it works since... well, I do not get any error message but ... rpmdrake says that my mandrake 10.0 is up to date. No update available. Nothing in one month? Difficult to believe.
I'll try to find the time tomorrow to try the "manual" way following your instructions.
And THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!
