tightvnc help

i run the vncserver and enter the password and resolution on my mandrake box. but when i try using my windows box with the tightvnc viewer i get "failed to connect to server".
i can ping my boxes both ways so that isnt the problem and the service is running.
kind of stumped on this because it usually sets up as a no brainer.

Firewall on the mandrake box perhaps? You need to have 580x and 590x open to use VNC, where 'x' is the display number.

Yeah if you've installed shorewall, iptables or have set the msec to something other than NORMAL during the install, you'll have these problems.

Drop the msec level to normal via the MCC and turn off iptables and shorewall services.

more obvious then... is the vnc server running? show us the relevant line from "ps ax | grep vnc"

Router?

Are BOTH the client (the machine you are trying to connect FROM) and the host (the machine you are trying to connect to) on the same network, "behind" the router?
