thunderbird pointers not active

I have lived with this for a while and cannot figure out why thunderbird either has not implemented a facility or it has been deactivated by default.

When I get a URL pointer in an email I cannot click on it and get the default browser up to the location, unlike Kmail which calls a browser.

Is this an omission or is there a way to get thunderbird to work on the URL and call a browser?

In your KDE control centre, go to Components -> File Associations. Look up .html (I think it's under 'text') and in the panel to the right, set your default browser to Firefox (or whatever you use as a browser to differentiate between the 'default browser') and when you next click a link in Tbird, it should open in Firefox etc.

The problem is that thunderbird is not listed as I did not load it as an .rpm I downloaded it as a .tar.gz file. I call it from an ikon on the desktop.

It is not on the Mandrake application menu from the start bar. Any idea how I can get Mandrake to see it?

That doesn't matter.
You're not setting anything to do with Tbird, but rather setting the default browser to whatever you require; so, if you use Firefox as your browser, and Tbird is using Konqueror for .html links, by setting FF as the default, Tbird should open all .html links in Firefox.

You need to use Menudrake (the application is reasonably easy to use, but if you run into trouble post back) to add items onto the start menu.
F2 -> type menudrake OR KDE-> System -> Configuration -> Other -> Menudrake

The point is that under text- html there is no listing for thunderbird only Konqueror, Mozilla and Quanta.

Only kmail calls Konqueror. However, I use Thunderbird for it's spam gobbler. Thunderbird calls nothing that is my problem. Maybe the setting is in Tbird I don't really care which browser it calls as long as it calls a browser.
