The Kernel
Hi ,
guess im becoming a regular here :D Anyway to all those that have helped so far , thanx a million. Now im busy fiddling with the kernel Im currently running 2.4.22-10 What i want to know is is it possible for me to upgrade all the way to 2.6 as i have downloaded the following sources and am not to clear on how to patch and upgrade etc im running on a 56k modem so i dont want to use the update site it will take way to long  this is what i downloaded so far from another location with 256k line :D :D linux-2.4.22.tar.bz2 patch-2.4.23.bz2 patch-2.4.24.bz2 also linux-2.6.0.tar.bz2 i know i have to unzip the sources into the linux directory so do i unzip 2.4.22 into a directory then unzip the first patch into the same directory (replacing files ??) then follow this with the second patch (replacing more files ??) and finally recompile Or can i go straight to 2.6 ?? im not to sure on how to go about this , am reading manuals at the moment , but if there is someone with firsthand experiance and you feel up to some typing shoot :D :D thanx |
well you can take that linux-2.6.0.tar.bz2 and follow this guide if you want and go straight to 2.6
read thorougly first, and make sure you understand, and ask questions if your unsure about something . .. |
Make that a 2.6.1 kernel now. I think 2.6.1 contains some important fixes. In any case, when upgrading to 2.6.x kernels, there are certain things to look at:
