Unhappy text/console gives static when using new Geforce FX driver

Hi, I have had this problem with Mandrake 9.1 and now 9.2. When I install the newest nvidia Geforce FX driver everything works as it should but when I try to go to text/console mode by pressing ctrl-alt-F[1-6] I get this weird snow static. I can see some of the words that are supposed to be there, like login: for example, but they are blown up and distorted in this weird snowy way. When I go back to the regular "nv" driver it works fine and when I boot up in console mode (init 3) it is all fine. My monitor is a NEC MultiSync LCD1765 which is not listed in the normal monitor setup page so I have to choose custom and set the vertical and horizontal refresh rates manually.

Any help anyone can offer me would be greatly appreciated.
