System hangs when PCMCIA SCSI card inserted

I am having a problem with pcmcia SCSI card under Mandrake 9.2 with kernel 2.4.22-21mdk custom compiled. When I insert the card system hangs: first X crash and then hangs. No response at all, even Ctrl + Alt + SysRq +U [ or B] dosen't work.
If I boot the sysem up with the card inserted X crash but not the whole system. So if I press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace I can have the login screen. After that it works fine without problem.
I have no idea what can cause this problem. When I used Redhat 8, 9 I didn't have this problem at all.

Thanks for any help in advance.
