swithching the XF86 file to support my new monitor

I have just retained a flat panel Dell E153fp monitor and I want to use it on my MAndrake 10 machine. I have swapped monitors before but I can't remember where I did it could some one help please?
Thanks
Jason

WHen I try startx I get:
XI0: fatal Io error 104 (connection reset by peer) on X server "0:0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

I have yet to change anything from its initial config. Why would this be happening?

Try running XFdrake from a command prompt and setting your monitor there. If not autodetected, select a generic with the resolution and refresh rate you want.

WHen I run XFDrake it tells me that X Font Server failed to start

How can I fix that

XFDrake won't start and gives that error?

Or that error appears when you try to restart X after changing the monitor type in XFDrake?

after changing monitor type

The only thing that comes to mind is that your X font server may be looking for 100dpi fonts to work at the resolution you chose. Set up yuor urpmi sources (if you have not already done so):
http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/

Install the 100dpi font pack:
urpmi xorg-x11-100dpi-fonts

Type kde or reboot and check if it works.
