Switching to Gnome

Ok here's the deal.. I've just installed Mandrake 10.0 and in the installation sumary I chose not to load the graphical interface at boot. so, the default windows manager is KDE, is there any way I can change it to Gnome? like the slackware command "xwmconfig"? if not could someone explain me how to change it?

As root

urpmi gnome

Install anything listed (not all are required but what the heck...)

e.g.

urpmi gnome-whatever

Now log out from KDE and you'll see that GNOME is now available from the login screen under the session options.

ok well, I tried that but it asks me for CD4 and I only downloaded the first 2 cds is there any other way to do it or could I just download the packages?

Go into Software Media Manager, and REMOVE any CD you do not currently have...

e.g. 4, 5 & 6 if listed.

Exit.

Then go here http://www.zebulon.org.uk/urpmi_en.html

and set up your sources (do this as root) as indicated.

Now try again, this time it will work, pulling missing files from the internet.

Also you'll find a new enormous amount of additional software available to you in an easy to install and available format.

You can also install encrypted DVD playback support, additional drivers, etc... things which were missing from your 3 disk set.

After making the above changes make sure you have a look at the "Install Software" gui to see all of the new available applications.

You can get detailed descriptions of each, and merely tag whichever you want the system to automatcially install for you.
