Strange konqueror problem, mime type application/octect not found
I am using KDE 3.2 in mandrake 10. I installed mplayer and changed some mime links in konqueror using the menu settings:configure konqueror, then altering file associations. Since then when i launch konqueror it launches a text box labled sorry, and the message mime type application/octect not found. Konqueror runs fine, in fact using it now to send this mesg, but i would like to rid myself of the annoying popup box. any help is appreciated.
I went through the same thing a while ago. The mime type application/octect-stream is a catch-all data type where the real data hasn't been specified. I, under the assumption, think that when some files are given a new/"custom" association, octect-stream gets confused/discombobulated. The solution I have found that works, is to delete ~/.kde/share/mimelnk/application/octet-stream.desktop. As long as all your other "important" file associations are intact and have an association to a particular app, then I wouldn't/haven't worry/worried about it being removed.
sad part is, i already tried that (mv first, in case it was needed) still gives me the same popup. i may switch to yoper dist soon, won't be much of an issue, just wish i could save my current state as an iso so i could come back to it if i don't like it
