startx failure
sorry if this has been asked before but i could not find anything that helped in the other posts. I have a dell latitude cpx that has a 233 with 128 megs of ram. The problem that i am having is that i can not get X to start. i try startx and get the error message: execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 2)
any one? I am still really new to this. and fyi, i just installed mandrake 10.1 first time. also on boot it will run the GUI boot up and inits. It gets to login and that is where i am getting the failures.

run XFDrake and change your configuration.
Be sure to TEST the settings you have selected so that you do see the graphics screen test.
It sounds like X is not properly set up for your video/monitor configuration.

i dont understand what you mean if i am trying to run x with the other GUI. there is no gui up. I am sitting at the CLI mode and i login in. Then i type start x to start the xwindows and i get the error listed in orginal post.
I also tried to run the XFDrake and it was not found. Any other ideas? Thanks

Sorry you are running 10.1 which uses a slightly different configuration program.
I believe it's called XorgConfig or something similiar.
at the console prompt hit Xorg[TAB] to see anything which may match.
Also you can try DrakConf and go into the Video configuration from there.
