SSH permission denied on Mandriva 2006
Hello guys
Well I'm facing problems with ssh with the new mandriva version Mandriva 2006. While I try to connect to my university computer lab via ssh, I get 'permission denied (public key)'. I've tried to modify some settings in the file /etc/ssh/ssh_config but now I've got the same problem but it's 'permission denied()'. Can you help me and explain me how to bypass the public key authentification? Thanks and below is the log when I try to connect: *************************************************************************************************** [evilangel@localhost Desktop]$ ssh -v sasuke@XXXXXXX.XX.XXX-XXXXXX.XX OpenSSH_4.3p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7g 11 Apr 2005 debug1: Connecting to XXXXXXX.XX.XXX-XXXXXX.XX [XXX.XX.XXX.XXX] port 22. debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /home/evilangel/.ssh/identity type -1 debug1: identity file /home/evilangel/.ssh/id_rsa type 1 debug1: identity file /home/evilangel/.ssh/id_dsa type 2 debug1: Remote protocol version 2.0, remote software version 3.0.1 SSH Secure Shell (non-commercial) debug1: match: 3.0.1 SSH Secure Shell (non-commercial) pat 3.0.* debug1: Enabling compatibility mode for protocol 2.0 debug1: Local version string SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_4.3 debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT received debug1: kex: server->client aes128-cbc hmac-md5 none debug1: kex: client->server aes128-cbc hmac-md5 none debug1: sending SSH2_MSG_KEXDH_INIT debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_KEXDH_REPLY debug1: Host 'XXXXXXX.XX.XXX-XXXXXX.XX is known and matches the DSA host key. debug1: Found key in /home/evilangel/.ssh/known_hosts:1 debug1: ssh_dss_verify: signature correct debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS received debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey, password debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /home/evilangel/.ssh/identity debug1: Offering public key: /home/evilangel/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Authentications that can continue: password debug1: Next authentication method: password sasuke@XXXXXXX.XX.XXX-XXXXXX.XX's password: debug1: Authentications that can continue: password Permission denied, please try again. sasuke@XXXXXXX.XX.XXX-XXXXXX.XX's password: debug1: Authentications that can continue: password Permission denied, please try again. sasuke@XXXXXXX.XX.XXX-XXXXXX.XX's password: debug1: Authentications that can continue: debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Offering public key: /home/evilangel/.ssh/id_dsa debug1: Authentications that can continue: debug1: Next authentication method: keyboard-interactive debug1: Authentications that can continue: debug1: Next authentication method: password debug1: No more authentication methods to try. Thx zeitounator, a friend has told me also that my password should be wrong like you said, but I'm sure it's the good password as I can connect from windows with a software like cuteftp, but now i need a ssh connection but it's permisson denied  Do you have any suggestion? :)

I persist to say that your password is wrong. The ftp and system account password can be different depending on the system configuration. Try to log in from windows with an ssh client like putty (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~s.../download.html) or (if possible) locally on the system you are trying to reach. If you get in with this same password with either of these solutions, I will admit I was wrong but I seriously doubt it :)

Well zeitounator, I think that you are right because I sometimes use putty when I'm on windows but now even with putty it's impossible to log onto the server. I've mailed the admin of the server and is now waiting for a reply from him.
Thank you for your help and I'll let you know when I'll get a reply from him :) |
Trying to solve problems communicating in english, using a web server probably sitting somewhere in the United States of America, while we are both located in France (and - who knows - maybe in the same city or region) makes me feel like we live in very strange Universe...

Lol yeps, but I'm from Paris ;)
Still no reply from my admin, in fact i've tried to test something, I've given my login and password to a friend, she succeeded to log onto the server with my password and login. Therefore, I think it's still a problem on my linux system, any idea zeitounator? Thx :) |
You could try deleting the server and its key in /home/evilangel/.ssh/known_hosts and then try again.
