Spam assassin and Kmail trouble

Hello, Im a total linux newb, been running mandrake 10 for like 5 days now so bare with me.

Alright, i installed spam assassin using rpmdrake off of the dist. cd...
I added the filters in kmail like it says on the spam assassin website...
but it also said set spamd to run in background at startup..... i dont know how to do that or where spamd is located so that might be a reason why...
but if its started already then it should be working, and it doesnt look like it has, ive recieved 52 emails, about 40 of which were spam, and it didnt grab any of them...
sorry im a newb, but im trying
thanks for any responses
imma keep trying on this
