Running 9.2 here and for some reason I don't have any other system sounds than the error type bep from the tower speaker. Any recommendations on what to check and where to do so.
If you are using the KDE desktop:
Open kcc [KDE Control Center]
Open Sound [click the '+' at the left]
Select Sound System
Make sure Enable the Sound System has an 'x' in the box at the left, and Auto-Suspend if Idle is set to 1 second
Now click test sound to be sure the sound server is working correctly
Now open look & feel
Click system notifications
Click the drop-down bar near the top of the window
Select KDE System Notifications.
Here you can select which sounds you want for each event.
Be sure there is an 'x' in the Play a Sound box for each event you want a sound for in the Actions area
Click the '>' [right arrow] button to test the sound
One thing is playing a cd , another is having sound from the system ( you can get sound with your cd-rom because a small wire is connected to the sound card ... i know about it, i spent many days trying to get sound working !! )
Are modules loaded ... send output of : lsmod and dmesg.
Fedora won't solve the problem anyway... if you cannot have sound with mdk, i don't think you will have it with another distro .
I changed from Alsa to Oss and finally get sound as well !!
( i have via 8233 A mother board integrated sound card, and never get any sound from Alsa except cd-rom play...switched to OSS and now each and every sound works )
Mdk set Alsa as default.
But again, what is working for you and me cannot work for Mobo.
