Sound issues in version 10 and le2k5
Strange sound probs. Mandriva recognises my Intel onboard sound fine and has installed the drivers for it "intel8x_0" using alsa. But no sound? Whenever I open an app that requires sound such as a media player I get something like this
cannot open "/dev/something/" Switching to null output. After searching over google I found these solutions but they did not work for me. 1) try "alsamixer" in terminal and unmute "PCM, Master" and something else. This didn't work becuase the sound was unmuted to begin with. 2) Shut off "sound bells" or something like that. Didn't work either I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me out. An OS without sound sucks:( . Plus it means I cannot open anything that uses sound. Thanks in advance Xel'naga666 |
What is your motherboard?
What is you OS version exactly? LE or 10.0? I highly recomend LE2005 as it comes with a newer alsa. What is your alsa version? You may want to try: - Installing a new alsa and configuring it - Putting your Mandrake CD 1, choose update and on then go forward until you see a screen with all you devices (printers, network, sound, etc) and reconfigure your sound there |
Cheers for the reply. The motherboard is from a Dell 2400. 845g graphics onboard. I can't tell you much more becuase of my extreme newbieness :(
Im using Mandriva LE 2005 DVD edition. I'll give those things a try and report back to you if I encounter any probs. Cheers again. |
intel official web-site contains drivers for linux and explanations on how to install them. It usually consists of running a script, but I do think that installing the newest alsa could solve your problem.
