sound card problems


im tryin to get my sound card to work and it wont, when i installed 9.2 it said i would have to goto sourceforge.net/projects/aureal, weill, i went there now what do i do???



if you havent notice, im very new to this linux stuff.


thanks for the help

What type of sound card do you have. Once we know that we can help.

For starters and to check - open a Konsole and as Root user post the output of

lspci

You can also open the console, switch to root, and go

/sbin/harddrake2

You'll get a gui hardware config tool. Pick Sound Card. It should show you both your device and the module that Mandrake has automatically loaded (provided it has recognized your card at the install). Run configure module at the bottom. I have just checked, and I couldn't find an aureal 8830 module among the available ones, but that could be because it's called something else, I don't know.

Also, from a root console you can always go

lsmod

It will show you a lengthy list of all your modules, and about halfway down it should give you several sound related outputs. If you post the results of all this, we can see where exactly the problem is.

PS: I have yet to get the sound working myself.
