Sony Cybershot

I have a laptop loaded with Mandrake Linux 9.1. The M/c is not recognising my SONY CYBER SHOT CAMERA DSC-S40.How do I make it recognise this camera.

have it might not detect it as a camera, but it most likely will see it as a Removable device, or possibly USB Mass Storage Device. It will probably be /dev/sda1 or if you need to find it quickly try checking to see if it's listed in KwikDisk.

try this: (no guarentees)

if you have gphoto2, plug in your camera, open a terminal and type in gphoto2 --auto-detect and second type in gphoto2 --get-all-files
