Some apps no longer starting in X?

I was able to launch the rpm installer (I believe it's called RPMDrake) just a couple of hours ago... but now it won't launch when I click on it. Neither will the System Configuration Tool..

The only change I made today was that I downloaded and installed the gzipped file for Perl 5.8.3.

Any ideas?

I'm using Mandrake 9.2

Ok, so apparently the perl install that I did messed some things up... when I type: /usr/sbin/drakconf (the system config utility), I get the following error:

Can't locate MDK/Common.pm

I'm trying to find that module on CPAN but so far no go...

Does mcc start? Maybe you should try reinstalling rpmdrake.

MCC does not start. I tried reinstalling rpmdrake from instructions on an earlier post, but I also get an error when I type 'urpmi drake'... I get the following error: 'Can't locate urpm.pm'.

I can only assume some paths to libraries were all nuked when I installed Perl 5.8.3 from the source file.

Any other ideas on how to fix this?

Maybe I should reinstall the perl rpm from the Mandrake disk? That one contained the vendor_perl directory which apparenly contained urpmi.pm.
