So has anyone installed KDE 3.4 yet

I have. On mandrake 10.1. I must say, it's so much faster! Seriously, and it's not my imagination. I've noticed that when people complain about "lag" on their computers...people suggest to them to use fluxbox or some other lightwieght window manager for speed...but I don't see that being need anymore :D. Not for speed anyway. I don't know if it's just me or what...but everything loads practically instantly now..

So, has anyone else installed kde 3.4? How did it go? Surprisingly for me, hassle free using urpmi.

Hassle free with apt4rpm on Suse 9.2. And, you are right. No lag, and it feels a bit tighter. I also like how everything works now. No theme wierdness and you can download wallpapers and such automagically now. Kinda nice.

But let's be honest, KDE is still slow as shit compared to every other GUI. I'd use blackbox if I could get better docking for apps on the SOB. But, as it stands now, it's probably the fastest I've ever seen for KDE. Very nice, and haven't found a bug yet.

working fine on mdk 10.1, and build with konstruct.

I built it on my test machine using Thac's RPM and it's running okay. I really can't tell the difference between KDE 3.2 and 3.4 other than some little effects.

I totally agree. KDE is a lot "heavier" than other graphical environments, but it's also the prettiest. :)
