Im having some problems with Mandrake 10 installation and running the system.
I work on 2 Pc's. One at home, and one at varsity. Im having trouble with the one at home.
PC at varsity : I installed Mandrake 10 in 15 Minutes, with NO hiccups. It runs like a beast. Fast and doesnt hang.. Its an Intel 2.4 Ghz, 512 RAM, GeForce2 64 MB, creative sound. 52X cd-rom.
PC at home : With the same install, it takes 1 HOUR!! Somtimes it hangs during the installation!! My HDD light stays on, and the mouse pointer cannot move, i assume that means something is wrong.. Im runnning an AMD 2600+, 640 RAM, Geforce4 128 MB, nForce sound, 52X cd-rom. When i managed to install it. When i boot up, it also hangs on occasion when i log in, and when i load apps, like OpenOfiice. Its not like my PC doesnt have the power to handle it...?
I used the same CD's to install the 2 machines, so it cannot be the Cd's.
Both machines are running WinXP also.
They are installed to the same specs, but the one is more stable, why?
regarding your hardware component.
what kind power supply does it have?
maybe a power supply faliure or not big enought to handle your hardware?
what about cd drives?
are they working? maybe malfunction?
Fixed the problem. Within the bootloader options, i had to enable the following options :
1. Force No APIC
2. Force No Local APIC
Mandrake 10 doesnt crash anymore. What exactly does these options do?? Its weird that enabling only these 2 options, fixes MDK 10.
Also, with regard to the cd-rom. Im just curious why MDK takes 15 min to install on my box at Uni, and about 45min on my PC at home, and my specs of my home PC is the same or actually better than the one im using at Uni. Home & Uni PC has a 52x CD-ROM.
I've run into the same problem. Not all cd's are totaly compatible with all cd readers. Changing the cd brand to more of a compatible cd will speed it up.
I found out what the problem was regarding the sluggish install.. As my motherboard has APIC capability..this plays up with MDK10. So booting the install with options "linux noapic nolapic" DISABLES APIC, and it now installs in 15 min!
Try this out and see if it works for ya.. Thanks for the ya post though..Will try other media, more recognized...
