Question Slow file transfer

Hello there, i am a Mandriva 2008 user. When i try to copy big files i realized that the file transfer is very slow.. Especially slower then Windows. is it because of my distro or the reiserFS file system?

Hi and welcome to LQ.

I use reiserfs and don't have a problem with slow transfers. Do you have any other memory intensive processes running (check using a command called top)? Also how much memory do you have on your system?
