Just figured it out
there is a configuration file (just shows up like "config@") in the /boot folder that tells the kernel how to run and what to leave up to modules to work with (I know it says not to edit but it works now so I call it a work-around). All I had to do is add a short pice to my grub loader menu file (called "menu.lst"), under /boot/grub, "hde=noprobe hdg=noprobe". Then just modify the config@ file and reboot twice and it worked. I did recompile the kernel with the "make" and "make modules_install" commands but I don't knoe if this did anything seeing as I did nothing to the bzimage or the vmlinuz. If anyone needs further help with this drop me a line and I will see if I can help. if anyone needs more details I can post them as soon as I know.
Thanks to everyone that had some tiny or great piece of the information that I needed, it all helped.
