Shutting Down

ok this may seem REALLY stupid, but here goes:

i have been using mandrake since ver 7 on my laptop, and when i want to shut it off, i click K>Log Off and i get the promp to reboot or shut down. yesterday i installed mandrake 9.2 with apache and all the other www server packages on my new server to run my website and now if i boot into mandrake (non secure) when i click K>log off, it just logs off and goes to the login screen. and there is no way to shut it down from there either, i can only log back in or restart the Xserver.

this is REALLY frustrating! How do i shut down my system?

also, what is the console command to shut down the computer?

halt -p this should turn off the power as well

shutdown -h now

or if x then go to log out on the task bar and it will give you a windowsy type shutdown procedure.
