Shutdown Problem

I just installed Mandrake 10 and this is my first linux.I have a problem with it.I cant find shutdown anywhere. When I go to Logout it takes me to Login screen, and the only way to shutdown is from command line with su command, and even then I have to shut my computer down manually. Can anybody please help me?
Thanx

To permit users to shut the system down, you must login as root and bring up the KDE control panel.

There you can define if and which users are permitted to shut the system down from the GUI.

You can also CTRL-ALT-F1 to the console and log in as root and shut the system down...

e.g.

shutdown -t0 -h now

Thanx.I just fount it.But still after I run shutdown I have to turn off my laptop manually. Can I fix this somehow?

To enable the shutdown command to automatically shut down the machine you must enable either apm or acpi, whichever your Laptop bios supports.

Often these are turned off by default, check the kernel parameters in /etc/lilo.conf

You may have noacpi or noapm set.

Finally you may have to run the apm or acpi service/daemon.

BTW:

Also follow the directions at http://www.zebulon.org.uk to set up urpmi then

urpmi acme

Once logged in hit start/run/acme

You'll get a new taskbar icon that will enable you to utilize your laptops multimedia and dedicated function keys.

Heh, this varies according to what you need.

Check out the LinuxLaptop pages (google for them).

Often most of these questions have been already answered there.

Come back when you can't get further.
