Sharing internet with windows

I know this is a double Post, I just wasnt sure where would be best to put it. If there is a better way to post to two forums, someone please let me know...

I just installed Mandrake 10 on my Windows XP machine as a dual boot.

I LOVE IT.

One big problem though, I have a home network and this machine provides the Internet access. I was using Internet connection sharing on Windows XP to the other computers on the network using DHCP. I installed Mandrake 10, ran the Internet connection sharing wizard (or is it Daemon in Linux?) and now the other computers are getting assigned IP numbers by the Linux install, but no Internet.

Ping does see Internet Machine, but cannot ping Internet locations.

The Internet is working on this machine.

I am running two Ethernet cards; ETH0 is connected to cable modem, ETH1 is connected to internet.

The network is Windows XP Pro and Linux. There are two other machines, both also dual boot Linux and Windows XP.

The firewall is disabled completely to avoid any possible issues, I will set it back up once network is working correctly.

I have not been able to find any info anywhere on what the issue may be. Answers would be appreciated, and links to where details could be found also very appreciated.

I am trying to learn more about Linux and possible move away from Windows, just many issues to resolve. First fix Internet, then WINE...... But that is another story for another day. :)

It sounds like your mandrake computer is not forwarding the ip traffic to the other ethernet card. There should be some sort of utility in mandrake to set up ip forwarding, look around for it.

Firewall

The only Firewall I am running on either is the defaut OS FireWall.

you're using dhcp on eh1? doing that on my mandrakemove didn't even give me access to the other computers files, let alone sharing internet. for my situation, i had to give eth1 a static ip of 192.168.0.1 and the regular 255.255.255.0. try that ??

connection sharing

Ok here is what I have Mandrake 10.0 eth0 is configured with dhcp to connect to the internet, which it does. Eth1 is configured static with 192.168.1.1/255.255/255/0 and is supposed to connect and rout to the lan (windoze). Ran the ICS wizzard and have the machines on the lan configured correctly for dhcp. I can ping this machine and get a reply. I can ping the gateway and get a reply, I can ping somewhere on the net and resolve the address but then time out. All firewalls are disabled to the best of my knowledge. Before I have used a floppy firewall/router on a seperate machine, but lack of space is forcing me to try and configure this, Its gotta work, its gotta be something simple that I am overlooking.

Thanks

Got it

Ok I went into services and found that shorewall and routed were not running, started both services and went to the MS machine and did a release renew and now it works! Now to configure the firewalls.
