set gid problem
 

I am trying to get mailman running and am having a problem with pipe script 'mailman'. It needs to run as group 'mail' but gets an error because it is running as group 'nogroup'. The group on the script is correct ('mail') and the set gid bit is on. It appears that the set gid bit is not working which seems impossible. Can anyone suggest why this script does not run as the proper group? Thanks.

I have been told that the real problem is that it is packaged wrong and should have been configured with the option "with_mail_gid=nogroup".

If it matters it turns out that that the problem was postfix. Postfix is supposed to run the pipe commands using the gid of the /usr/postfix/aliases file. Mine was not doing that. A reinstall of postfix corrected the problem.

Happy to hear it worked out OK, and yes it does matter! I just could not think of anything to help, and I am sure that was why others did not respond.
