Searching for new hardware

I've just decided to put gates on the sea, and downloaded Mandrake 10.1 DVD

Installed it on an Maxtor 60Gb, made 2 partitions, main at 22gb and a swap at 2gb. The rest of the disk is 10Gb system partition for Win XP Pro, and the rest for fillings of stuff!!!!

Installed perfectly, got the bootscreen up and running!
After everything is installed, I tried the new bootscreen to see if I was able to boot into XP! Worked!
Rebooted and sat like a child with candy to see Mandrake boot up!

The problem occurs when I'm trying to start Mandrake.
After starting up all kinds of stuff, it hangs on the thread " searching ( or scanning ) for new hardware"

I've let it stay for 3 hours, but still nothing!

Please don't say it's the drive. I've never had anything problems with it!

I've tried to go into Failsafe, with no problem, but I don't know much about commands ( yet )

If I have to install into another harddisk, I also have a 180Gb Western Digital and a Maxtor 80Gb

But can I now change the boot sequence so XP starts ( Don't want to kill it before everything is up and running, and I actually understand it more ... )

Please advice on what to do!

Best regards

Re: Searching for new hardware

Why a 2gb swap? thats a bit over done. You shouldn't need more then a 800mb swap if that.

Now first off what board is this? Does it have PnP bios?

It's a Gigbyte KT400 ( ga-7vaxp ) and yes it should be PnP Bios

At the moment I'm using almost latest bois update ( I don't need the added feature of Semprom CPU's )

But I checked that HD that linux is installed on ... and when I fill it up to around 96% I get a little clicking sound in it! Can this be that when I made those partitions, I have touched this ( probably ) bad area?
