Screen Res Troubles driving one round the bend
Hey all
This is my First post and to say that i am a Lunix Newbie is an understatement, but i am having one major problem i cant seem to find an obvious answer for. The installation of mandrake goes fine, but when i boot into it, the screen is streched (I have to move the mouse to the boundery of the screen and it scrolls the whole screen over)
Im using a ATI Raedon 7000, which it has detected and says is all working, also using a Samsung 700DF monitor. I know wht video card/Monitor happily supports 1024x786 and have tried setting a custom monitor but to no avial.
Any help would be appriciated
Belial

If you have an older distro, use xf86config
If it's a newer distro, use [b]xorgconfig[/b[
ANswer all of the questions, restart X, and you should be all set!

well, I think I just sent my mandrake 8.2 to crash heaven with the wrong graphics card selection. Can't even boot. The learning curve here is a little severe.

Still at it....
i read about someone else having this problem on another forum, Here but i tried it and all i did was screw up my X.... ran the configuration tool that was suggested abouve to no avail using the specs given in my monitor manual.
I presume the trouble is like the other post says, as this same symtom (The screen being bigger than the monitor and scrolling around) happened before in windows when i used a second monitor (There is and probably only ever will be one monitor attatched right now.) Im really at a loss, ive googled until i was blue and the face and didnt really get anywhere. This is my first linux install... dont let me lose hope
(Note: The first time i tried this i was using 10.0, i thought i would see if the problem would fix itself if i did a clean install of 10.1.... it hasnt, just to let you know what im running right now)

SUCSESS
Finally after lots of fiddling, Ive managed to get the screen to display properly, thanks gort 32, i ended up changing the driver to a standard VESA compatible, and adding custom linemodes created by a script on a website a friend pointed me to. Although i wont have and 3D acceleration it looks like that is a major headache to get going in older ATI cards.... and i needed an excuse to buy a new one.
Thanks again
Belial
