Exclamation Scanner as root

Got my scanner detected but can only run scanning apps, Xsane and QuiteInsane after first opening a terminal, and Su to root, then typing in xsane or quiteinsane. I know it's a permission problem but an unable to rectify it. Running Mandrake CE 10.1. Help needed.

Yes, you will need to update the permissions on the scanning device - can you post the output from:
scanimage -L

device `canon_pp:0x378' is a CANON N640P flatbed scanner
Afraid thats all I get.
