i have mandrake linux in my pc.i installed samba-latest3.0.10...i have to open and edit my linux files...i mean mainly for /home dir. in can i use samba effectely .....tell me short procedure ....pls any one help me...

Unless you'd like to manually create your smb.conf (Samba configuration), I'd recommend using SWAT or Webmin to configure Samba. They're both graphical utilities that should make it relatively straightforward.

Also some other gotcha's:

Make sure that the workgroup name on your Windows machine is the same as the workgroup name in Samba.

If you are using a windows firewall, open up the IP addresses on your class III network by range (192.168.1.XXX to 192.168.1.XXX) so the computers can see each other. If you are not using a firewall, then you really should get one. Don't rely on the router only (if you have one).

Maqu is right though, the easist way for a samba beginer is Webmin...
