Running bittorrent ?

Hey Guys,

I just downloaded bittorrent rpm and installed using MCC and wanted to know where it downloads to. In other words, when I choose OPEN WITH , what do I type inside the box to start my download?

you mean `where is the bittorrent executable?'?

try these
0)
$ ls -l /usr/bin/bit[tab]*

1)
(look for an `installed files' section in your PMS)
$ rpm --help | grep file | grep list

2)
# updatedb
$ locate

3)
$ find /usr/bin -name 'bit*'
$ find / -name 'bit*'

I tried it as regular user and super user and nothing. I know I installed it because I used Mandrake Control center and it called for python and one other thing and said it installed successfully.[

stan@localhost stan]$ $ ls -l /usr/bin/bit[tab]*
bash: $: command not found
[stan@localhost stan]$ su
Password:
[root@localhost stan]# $ ls -l /usr/bin/bit[tab]*
bash: $: command not found
[root@localhost stan]# $ rpm --help | grep file | grep list
bash: $: command not found
[root@localhost stan]# updatedb
[root@localhost stan]# $ locate
bash: $: command not found
[root@localhost stan]# $ find /usr/bin -name 'bit*'
bash: $: command not found
[root@localhost stan]# $ find / -name 'bit*'
bash: $: command not found
[root@localhost stan]#

hint:
the $'s and #'s aren't a part of the command, they're a part of the prompt.

that is, those prefixed with $ should work for average users, those with # is meant to be run as root.

also, try
$ bt[tab][tab]
$ bittorrent[tab][tab]
and see which commands occur

and also
$ which <command>
where <command> is each of those you found above (one at a time)

Thanks found it this way.

[stan@localhost stan]$ locate bittorrent
/home/stan/Documents/azureus bittorrent.sxw
/usr/share/man/man1/bittorrent-downloader.1.bz2
/usr/share/man/man1/bittorrent-multi-downloader.1.bz2
/usr/share/doc/bittorrent-3.4.2
/usr/share/doc/bittorrent-3.4.2/LICENSE.txt
/usr/share/doc/bittorrent-3.4.2/README.txt
/usr/share/doc/bittorrent-3.4.2/credits.txt
/usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-bittorrent.desktop
/usr/share/mime/application/x-bittorrent.xml
/10.0/usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-bittorrent.desktop
/10.0/usr/share/mime/application/x-bittorrent.xml
[stan@localhost stan]$

But what do I enter when it says open with?

have a look in /usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-bittorrent.desktop with your fav. text editor (i.e. emacs ); it should launch an app. Launch the same.

I use firefox and it seems it wants to launch and start the download of torrent file because it says Starting......in the download window that opens up, but nothing ever happens, it just stays there forever.

If I try to navigate manually to /usr/share/mimelnk/application/ and I go all the way up to applications, x-bittorrent.desktop is not there. As a matter of fact its all blank and there is nothing to choose from.

Now If I go to my home in Konqueror browser, I can go to /usr/>/share/>/mimelnk/>/x-bittorrent.desktop/, and can see eveything this way but I can't see all the applications through the browse window of the install box that opens when I try to download manually.

I assume for some reason the applications are invisible?

I hope I am making sense..

The bittorrent applications should be in /usr/bin
Type /usr/bin/btdownloadgui.py to get it run.

If it is not in /usr/bin, try and locate the executable btdownloadgui.py

Best regards

FYI if you've installed an RPM and want to know where and what it installed this is the command:
Code:
rpm -ql nameofrpm
You can also go into the Remove Software thingy in the MCC and see all the installed RPMs there. If you click on one and select 'Maximum Information' and scroll down it will show you what it has installed.
