RunLevels

Does anyone know the runlevels for mandrake 10

I'm writing a script to run apache at startup. I'm sortof new to this, but I'm going to put the script in /etc/init.d and make a symbolic link from rcX.d depending on which rcX.d dir to use. I'm not totally sure how those runlevels work.

Help??

Thanx

Assuming that you've got the apache package installed, then go to Start Button -> System -> Configuration -> Configure Your Computer -> System -> Services, and check "On boot" for httpd. And it's done. What that does is to place the symlink S92httpd into /etc/rc3.d/ and /etc/rc5.d/, and that points to /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd which is the apache start script.

I compiled apache from the source though. I don't believe it puts the script in init.d. This is why I'm manually writing the script and linking it from rcX.d I just wanted to know which symlink goes into which rcX.d dir. sXXprogram@ and kXXprogram@.

Any thoughts

Exactly the SAME problem i had to make squid autoboot from a compiled installation Ļ./configureĻ

I finally found squid on Mandrake and then it was just configure and chkconfig -level 345 and shot thanks for coming... it worked.

I donīt know how to make mandrake id apps installed from konsole (kde 3) and then allow them prefrence over the installed version that exist in mandrake.

I think that will be my main downfall if i compile *anything* service-like and get told to make it load in boot time.

[thread starter] - guess that they tell the system what services will be loaded... on boot something like in a windoze env.... safe-mode, minimal services etc etc

start apps in boot... squid example www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ-3.html#ss3.6
scroll down about half a page + script file example
