root login to mandrake 10.1 and manu names
Hi all,
I installed Mandrace 10.1 Discovery on my laptop. My problem is I don't know how to log in to KDE as a root user. During the instalation give root password, and created one user with password and now this user is logged automatically after every reboot. I changed this somewhere in CP so users have to log in, but that gives me Windows XP style icons to choose the user and put your pass. But there is no root! I want log in to KDE as a root user and use my computer as a root user. Is it possibele to do it in Redhat style so you have to give user nape and password without silly icons. Second thing is I don't want that silly names in menu like: ' Create text document' istead of Open Office writer. Is this version of mandrake for complete idiots? Thanks |
hi there
mandrake is the Linux i recommend for newbies it does not allow root login through X11 only to prevent new users from doing something wrong, although when u perform administative tasks from non root user account you are asked for root password but if u want to enable root login then there is a file /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc there u need to remove root from the tag hidden users and make allow root login =true instead of false else u need to use GDM as your login manager and from there you can login as root without making changes to the above file regards |
run as root in shell:
#init 3 then when X is off login: root pass: ********* startx and you're in |
