Rezound gives soundplayer not initialised

Rezound loads in the sound file but when I try to play the file I get 'sound player not initialised'.Similar also happens with Audacity yet Amorak and cd's plays ok .
Grateful for any help.

Did you get xmms to work?

Amarok is KDE's player and KDE uses aRts as it's sound system (or at least used to).
I think you still haven't got ALSA working (and Rezound and Audacity uses ALSA/OSS).

Try running 'draksound' and see if you can configure anything (also read the help there).
Also post the info in /var/log/dmesg and the output of 'lsmod' (run it as root) after a reboot.

Did the info from draksound get you anywhere?
Especially the 'lspcidrake | grep AUDIO' should be interresting since you seem to have
all the right alsa modules loaded and we've established that you have a /dev/dsp
that you "own" and have r/w permissions

Start rezound and (as root) run ' lsof | grep rezound | grep dev' you should see something like
Quote:
rezound 6476 peder mem CHR 1,5 298 /dev/zero
rezound 6476 peder 0u CHR 136,2 4 /dev/pts/2
rezound 6476 peder 1u CHR 136,2 4 /dev/pts/2
rezound 6476 peder 2u CHR 136,2 4 /dev/pts/2
rezound 6476 peder 4w CHR 14,3 7290 /dev/dsp

You forgot the pipe sign "|" in ' lspcidrake -v | fgrep AUDIO' but nevermind.
As you can see the system has identified your sound card:
"snd-ens1371 : Creative Labs|Sound Blaster AudioPCI64V/AudioPCI128 [MULTIMEDI A_AUDIO]"

I think I found (some of) your problem: You have started jack as root.

If I do that and start rezound (as peder) I get the same error as you.
Do a 'ps ax | grep jack' and see if you have any jackd running. If you have, su to root and kill it ('killall jackd')
Try starting rezound again as your normal user.

Now xine, ardour and whatever should work.

And if you start rezound do you still get the errors concerning jack and OSS?

Close all your running programs, do a 'ps ax' and post the result.

If you can, try this (to circumvent any KDE sound problem) :

Edit /etc/inittab (as root) and change "id:5:initdefault:" to "id:3:initdefault:" (if it's not already 3)
Type (as root) 'urpmi icewm-light ; urpmi xterm' (you will probably have everything installed already)
Type (as david) 'mv ~/.xinitrc ~/.xinitrc.org ; echo icewm-light > ~/.xinitrc'
Reboot and log in as your normal user.
Type 'startx'

Klick the IceWM start button, go to System/Terminals and start an xterm. Try running rezound.
Report any errors.

The LADSPA and lame errors are just warnings meaning you don't have access to any LADSPA filters and you
can't play MP3's in rezound. Did you try playing any .wav ? There should be plenty in /usr/share/sounds/.
Did you try playing anything in ardour or xmms under Ice ?

From your 'ps ax' I can see you're running artsd in KDE and I think that's the culprit. You could try disabling that
by doing something similar to this (nicked from http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/.../msg03653.html)
Quote:
In the (KDE) control centre, there's a section on "sound & multimedia". Under "sound system", you'll find a tab
on "aRTs" which lists as first option "start aRts soundserver on KDE startup". Deselect it and you're in business.
And I really don't know how you managed to get the "jack" error, if not as I described.
